Start and finish
The Jenkintown Sunset 5K Run starts at 7:00 PM on at Jenkintown Borough Town Square, 703 Greenwood Ave, Jenkintown, PA 19046. Get directions.
Packet pickup and check-in open on the square at 5:00 PM, and race-day registration closes at 6:55 PM. The free Kids Dash for ages 6 and under goes off at 6:35 PM, so the start area is busy well before the gun. Give yourself time to park, pick up your bib and warm up.
Pace corrals
Runners line up by expected pace in minutes per mile: Under 7, 7–9, 9–11, Over 11. With more than a thousand people on borough streets, seeding yourself honestly is the single biggest thing you can do to keep the opening stretch smooth for everyone, including you.
The route
The loop runs entirely west of Old York Road, through Jenkintown's residential streets. From the start it takes in Cedar Street and Leedom Street, climbs north past Hillside Avenue toward Linda Vista and Cloverly Avenue, then turns back along Elm and Walnut Avenues and down Runnymede Avenue to West Avenue, passing the Jenkintown Public Schools. The western end of the course reaches Jenkintown–Wyncote Station before turning onto Summit Avenue, Wyncote Road, Township Line Road and Mather Road, and back up Highland Avenue to the finish.
There are two water stops on course: one on West Avenue near Jenkintown–Wyncote Station, and one on Summit Avenue near Highland Avenue.
Is the Jenkintown 5K hilly?
Mostly no, with one exception. There is one climb that runners call the Summit, and it is the part of the course people talk about afterwards. It is not long, but it is the one place where saving a little effort pays off. Run the early miles at a pace you can hold, get over the Summit, and you will have something left for the finish.
